About

Jonathan Davies is a 20 year old student athlete combining his academic studies with his long term dream of competing at the 2016 Olympics Games in Rio de Janeiro. A Reading boy and member of Reading AC, the young athlete is under the careful guise of coach Rob McKim. A senior GB international Davies relies on support through Adidas, The University of Birmingham and British Athletics to successfully combine the vigour of international competition and his studies of Biology. Starting endurance running at the age of 14, Davies quickly established himself as one of the UK's best young athletes through a mixture of talent and hard work. After a number of successful years his first major breakthrough came in 2011 where he claimed his first English Schools title over the 3000m. From this he went on to run the 9th fastest British time ever recorded, for this age group over the distance. The subsequent years brought continued successes and numerous national titles were soon stacked up (8 titles as of the 01/01/15). His international career began at the beginning of 2012 with a trip to the prestigious Elgoibar cross country (XC) representing the English junior team where he finished 5th as the youngest in the race. More England XC races followed and it was not long before he made his GB debut at the Great Edinburgh XC where he lead the British contingent home, narrowly missing out on a medal in a 4th place finish. More GB caps followed with a trip to Poland at the World Cross country and to Serbia for the European Cross Country championships where Davies missed out on a medal by just 1 second in coming 4th. The summer of 2013 brought about Davies first track championships for GB. In a highly competitive field Davies claimed a bronze medal over the 5000m at the European Juniors in Rieti. 2014 brought more national titles and another European Cross Country at under 23 level. Davies also started his studies of biology at the university of Birmingham, where he enjoys training with one of the most competitive training groups in the country under a Sports Scholarship.
